Who knew you could elope in a real life treehouse?? Well now you can! This adorable, quaint, and unique treehouse is located in the woods of Washington state just a half hour outside of Portland, Oregon. You can even just go stay here for fun by finding the listing on AirBnB. This was a styled elopement but the love between Kristin and April could not have been more real.
Its a treehouse, so the first step to entering the humble abode is climbing a steep ladder. Once inside, you find yourself in a “living room” with a couch, table, and mini fridge. Then another smaller ladder brings you into a second level where the bed is located (a loft-like set up). In addition there’s the sweet touch of an outdoor seating area underneath the dwelling, a porch with a view of the property it sits on, and a separate quarter with a cute outhouse (old school steel bin shower and composting toilet included!).
Now that we’ve set the imagery for the location, lets hit the details of this unique treehouse elopement. As the photographer, I had to make the choice to not do any shooting in the treehouse itself, as the natural lighting inside was slim to none. We did get to use it as a beautiful backdrop though, in addition to some surrounding settings like the bonfire and dense woods. To finish off the shoot Kristin and April even had a little champagne toast up on the porch of the treehouse!
This styled elopement was so much fun! Styled shoots in general are great for taking a step back and getting creative, maybe trying something new, all without any of the pressure of a real wedding or elopement. If you’re a wedding vendor and are looking for some more information on planning your first styled elopement check out the guide I created here. April and Kristin are married, love the outdoors, and have the best smiles! I could not have asked for two more perfect women to model for us.
For anyone who may be considering having their elopement at this location there’s a few things to consider. It is located on a family property. The family is so sweet: they tended the fire for us, gave us privacy, and although it does still feel isolated it is something to note. As I’ve mentioned, for photography purposes there is a section of woods that we used for vow reading that could be utilized for whatever you choose!
From everything to the forest gnomes, to s’mores around the fire, to the grass field dancing, this shoot brought me and hopefully you as the reader so much joy! It would not have been possible without the effort and planning of some essential people. Most importantly, Molly Yi , planned this styled shoot for us and was kind enough to invite me to join!
